India's first and largest private Stem Cell bank, LifeCell’s state-of-the-art lab facilitates the cryogenic preservation of umbilical cord blood stem cells, cord lining and menstrual blood, at its unique facility in the South Indian state of Chennai. The company was started in 2004 in collaboration with CRYO-CELL International Inc. - the world's largest and oldest stem cell bank. CRYO-CELL International Inc was established in United States of America and has more than 200,000 cord blood units banked successfully.
LifeCell has been granted the prestigious AABB Accreditation, a first in INDIA. AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to developing the highest standards in blood and cord blood banking, transfusion medicine and cellular therapy. The accreditation assessment includes Stem Cell processing, Cyro-preservation records, document control, inspection and testing, training of lab technicians, sample identification and traceability and verification of cord blood units when released from storage. With this accreditation, LifeCell becomes the "First Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank in India to have procured the prestigious AABB accreditation". LifeCell is also the first stem cell organization to be registered with the US FDA and now to have the CAP Accreditation. The CAP (College of American Pathologists) Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
The Research and Development division of LifeCell has been recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India. With this accreditation our adherence has been formally recognized by the Govt. and this is a boost to promote further research in Stem Cell and to collaborate with other national institutions of excellence.
